Depart Nairobi and travel north and east through fertile highlands toward Meru. Enter the park or reach the selected lodge in time for lunch, then take an afternoon game drive through riverine habitats and open country. The first evening is about learning the landscape and following fresh wildlife signs rather than racing between sightings.
4 Days Meru National Park Untamed Wilderness Safari
A quieter private safari from Nairobi into Meru's riverine forest, palm country, rhino sanctuary and Big Five wilderness.
Private Kenya journeys designed around your own people, pace and priorities.
This four-day Meru safari is deliberately different from the standard Mara-Amboseli circuit. After leaving Nairobi and crossing the central highlands, spend three nights within or near Meru National Park, giving enough time to explore its rivers, open plains, palms and rhino sanctuary. The park's lower visitor numbers make it especially attractive to photographers and repeat safari travellers who value space, varied scenery and the possibility of wildlife encounters without a line of vehicles.
Spend a full day crossing contrasting parts of Meru with a private guide. Follow river systems and palm-lined tracks for elephant, buffalo, giraffe, antelope, hippo and big-cat possibilities. A picnic allows the route to reach quieter corners of the park while keeping the pace flexible for photography.
Focus part of the day on the rhino sanctuary and surrounding wildlife areas, then continue through the park's southern circuits. Depending on conditions, the route can include historically significant areas associated with the Born Free story while prioritising wildlife and scenery.
Take a final early game drive before breakfast, then leave Meru and return to Nairobi through the central highlands. Arrive for a late-afternoon hotel or airport drop-off depending on road conditions and your onward schedule.
