Leave Nairobi for the Maasai Mara, descending through the Great Rift Valley and continuing to the reserve. After lunch, begin with an afternoon game drive for plains wildlife and predators before sunset.
9 Days Grand Kenya Safari: Mara, Rift Valley, Amboseli & Tsavo West
A sweeping Nairobi-to-Nairobi luxury circuit from the Maasai Mara through the Rift Valley to Kilimanjaro country and Tsavo West.
Private Kenya journeys designed around your own people, pace and priorities.
This nine-day private circuit gives each of Kenya's classic southern landscapes a clear role. Begin with two nights in the Maasai Mara, move through Lake Nakuru and Lake Naivasha, spend two nights in Amboseli beneath Kilimanjaro, then finish with two nights amid Tsavo West's lava landscapes, springs and broad wilderness before returning to Nairobi. The route is designed for travellers who want a complete wildlife journey but prefer to finish inland rather than add a beach extension.
Spend a full day exploring the Mara with a private guide. The route is adapted to current wildlife movement and can include river systems, open plains and predator territories. A picnic lunch allows maximum time in the field.
Leave the Mara and travel through the Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park. Arrive for an afternoon drive focused on rhino, buffalo, giraffe, antelope and birdlife in the park's compact mix of woodland and lakeshore habitats.
Enjoy a short morning wildlife drive before continuing to Lake Naivasha. The afternoon is intentionally lighter after several game-drive days, with an optional boat excursion or relaxed lakeside time depending on the confirmed package.
Drive south across Kenya toward Amboseli. Arrive in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive, with elephants, wetlands and Mount Kilimanjaro viewpoints shaping the first evening in the park.
Use the full day for early and late game drives when wildlife activity and mountain visibility are strongest. Explore marshes and open plains for elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, predators and prolific birdlife.
Leave Amboseli and continue into the vast Tsavo ecosystem. The landscape becomes more rugged and volcanic. After lunch, begin a Tsavo West circuit through lava country, wooded hills and water-rich areas, with Mzima Springs included when access and timing permit.
Spend the day exploring Tsavo West at a slower pace. Search for elephants, buffalo, giraffe, antelope and predators while visiting scenic viewpoints and volcanic features according to the selected lodge location and road conditions.
Take a final early drive before breakfast, then leave Tsavo and travel back to Nairobi. Arrive for a late-afternoon hotel or airport drop-off, completing the circuit.
